Our last day in Puerto Escondido and even though we only stayed here for two and a half weeks we really started to feel like home.
We had our little daily routine with surfing in the morning, eating that incredibly yummy breakfast at the Tabachin while discussing culture, history and any other subject you can imagine with our host and the interesting crowd that would also attend breakfast, going to our Spanish classes and then having a sunset beer either at the beach or on our incredible balcony/terrace.
Also over this time we grew fond of a lot of nice people we had the privilege to meet:
First of course our host Don Pablo, a man as kind and generous as he is interesting. He let us partake in his passion for old books and history and always had a great advise for us. Also, without the great coffee from his own Ranch I most certainly would have leapt into massive caffein withdrawal. Moreover, he offered us the upgrade into the nicest Penthouse-room in Zicatela and a generous 3 nights for 1 special offer!
When we mention Don Pablo we also HAVE to mention the other hotel staff and their families. Our to favorite all-rounders Vivi and Lorena who stuffed us with great Mexican delicacies and keep our room nice and tidy. Their sons and daughters were always around helping and keeping us company. Especially the little Najelie (Vivi's cute little daughter) took my hart in a storm and besides our daily drawing session we both enjoyed the (very) easy lyrics of the song "Donde esta Yolanda".
We were also happy to meet a great Kiwi gal; Rachel the manager of the Spanish school. Since she is just as silly as I am, I was happy to introduce her to the interesting world of the Donkeylizard (don't try to understand, it would only make you shake your head in despair) and the universal use of the expression "Your so fluffy!". She in turn will invite us to her wedding with the - at the moment still imaginary - Dutch guy we decided to be her perfect match (yes, beer was involved in the decision making process).
Another great encounter was the one with Elmer, who works at our favorite restaurant the Arcis at Playa Marinero (a little beach just to the right of Playa Zicatela). He was our third Spanish teacher while making sure that we had enough beer (and sometimes Mezcal) to get our tongues loose enough. Also thanks to Elmer we could go to the great fishing trip we wrote about in an earlier post. After our discussion with him about Swiss and Mexican brewery culture - where I of course proudly mentioned the great Worber tradition of the friday evening Zwickel - we are looking forward to taste the first regional beer from Puerto Escondido on our next visit (we cheer for Elmer's new micro-brewery :).
Last but not least we enjoyed the great company of Frank over various very entertaining dinners and the often mentioned fishing trip. Even though he chickend-out eating the self cached fish, he made up with the Margaritas... ;).
Also, thanks to his sales skills I'm now the proud owner of a turquoise/coral necklace (and I'm still not sure if he did not work for the lady at the beach who sold the necklaces).
Thanks to all of you! You made our stay in Puerto a great experience.
